Dr. Brent Segal, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board

Dr. Brent M. Segal is a Director of Research Science at Lockheed Martin and Chief Technologist for Lockheed Martin Nanosystems following the acquisition of the Nantero Government Business Unit in 2008. In his role at Lockheed Martin, Brent has a broad charter to integrate nanotechnology throughout the Lockheed Martin product portfolio. In addition, Brent is active in the Healthcare, Energy and Cleantech spaces acting as a technology scout bringing small companies and university projects to Lockheed Martin. He assists with government program management for projects involving sensors, nanoelectronics, and materials science with DOD and DOE.

Dr. Segal is a Co-founder and part-time Chief Operating Officer of Nantero, a leading Nanotechnology company where he oversees operations roles focusing on partnerships, involving companies such as ON Semiconductor, Brewer Science, BAE and ASML.

He is a General Partner at Atomic Venture Partners (AVP), an early stage venture capital fund. AVP invests in early stage companies that leverage cutting-edge technology for “game-changing” results. AVP is led by successful venture-backed entrepreneurs and technology executives, who have founded several best-of-breed companies in our target industries including Semiconductors; Pharmaceuticals; and Nanotechnology.

He has been named the technical Advisor to the IEC TC 113 standard in nanotechnology which is focusing on general lighting and solar cell applications and is the Chairman of the IEEE 1784 standards effort. He has joined the Deshpande Center at MIT on their Review Committee. He is a CoFounder and Director at Doxbox, which is focused on leading the way in medical device interoperability and reduction in costs and errors in medicine.

He is co-author of over 100 patents and applications. He received his PhD in Chemistry from Harvard University in 2000 and is a graduate of Reed College, with a degree in Biochemistry.

Erin Ross Co-Founder, President and CEO

Erin Ross helped to co-found and was appointed Chief Executive Officer of NANRES in 2009. Her areas of specialty, interest, and experience include green nanotechnology; industry trend analysis and applications; finance; business strategy and operations; nanotechnology law; and national security, energy, and climate policy analysis and alignment.

Prior to joining NANRES, Ms. Ross served as a Joseph S. Nye Jr., research intern for the Center for a New American Security. CNAS is a non-profit think tank committed to developing strong, pragmatic, and principled national security and defense policies that promote and protect American interests and values.

During her CNAS tenure, Ms. Ross played an integral role in the logistical support and execution of a groundbreaking Climate Change War Game, which involved senior-level national and international participants. Her project research also focused on renewable industry trends and legislation, climate change policy, mitigation and adaption strategy, international post-Kyoto framework and negotiations, energy-specific nanotech applications, oil pipeline and infrastructure, and environmental security.

In addition to her experience in national security and energy security, Ms. Ross also has experience in banking and finance, and holds a degree in Business Management from Johns Hopkins University.

Jay Aceto, Secretary and Chief Technology Officer

Jay Aceto is President and Co-Founder of Red Phone Corporation. Prior to co- founding Red Phone Corporation, Mr. Aceto spent 20+ years in Federal civilian, DOD, and Intelligence sectors providing government security project management and administrative, operational, and technical computer security support, according to applicable Federal laws, Departmental Regulations, and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards and guidance, and industry best practices.

Mr. Aceto is a highly accomplished, industry recognized IT and security strategist with an outstanding history of leveraging technical expertise to provide high-impact business and security solutions for both public and private sector clients nationwide.

Mr. Aceto actively engages with leadership at the CXO level, and serves on executive counsels and boards throughout the Northern Virginia region. In recognition of his service, support, and promotion of several space activist organizations, Mr. Aceto was nominated to have his name placed on the Smithsonian National Air and Space Wall of Honor for his lasting contributions and tireless effort to promote the advancement of both scientific and commercial uses for space.

Mr. Aceto is a graduate from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in Business, and also has a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
